Report on A theory of everything - An integral vision for business, politics, science and spirituality, by Ken Wilber (2001)

Wilber is considered by many to be one of the leading philosophers of our time. Although he often speaks about God, the spirit, Gaia, etc., which may make it difficult to read for someone who is looking for business ideas, this book is very important for the understanding of what experiences really are. Not only does Wilber show many developments that lead up to the focus on meaning making and experiences, but he also shows why we should change our worldview from one that focuses solely on the material and tangible aspects of the world, Flatland as Wilber calls it, to one that also integrates the personal and cultural realms of life, AQAL, All Quadrants, All Levels, as Wilber calls it. Especially when an organization wants to reap the benefits of working with experiences, values, ideals, emotions, etc., a dominant materialistic and rationalistic worldview severely reduces the chance for success. According to Wilber, reality is not always a fixed given but in important aspects it is a construction, an interpretation. The creation of meaning of reality depends on an infinite number of contexts, none of which must be considered to be the most important. Taking into account all these contexts, whether one has control over them or not, is essential in a world that is shifting towards experiences and the creation of multiple values.
