Today at PicNic Crossmediaweek John de Mol spoke about the convergence of media and the future of television. We are not living in an age of change but in the change of age. We are living in the application age and are actually at a tipping point where meaning is (co)created by the user. Content and creativity are the maindrivers. Technology and ne w media have changed our lives and we develop on line and off line lifestyles(identities).
The impact of technology is overestimated on the short term and underestimated on the long term. Creativity and content remain the main drivers. We are moving into a participatory economy.( also called direct economy, see Bruno Giussani recently summarized the important ideas of Xavier Comtesse on the Direct Economy. http://blog.p2pfoundation.com/ It will not be “or” TV “or” the Web but it will be “and and” . We are talking about synergy and convergence of media where innovation and integrated experiences go hand in hand. Interaction will be the key of it all. We are finished with interruptive advertsing and moving to engagement. He concluded his talk with the phrase content stays king.
