Two weeks ago I had an interview with one of the Kaos Pilots who is founding the school overhere and I have to say I was very impressed. Many times I have thought about what kind of education could be useful for people to understand and really integrate the values that are important for creating meaningful experiences and the whole interview was one big recognition of these values. A piece of advice for everyone dealing with hiring people and thinking about how you can get to really know the applicant: take a look at the Kaos application form at their website. In Johari windows terms: usually three out of four windows are dealt with during an interview. There is the ‘open’ window of things the applicant knows about himself and you also know about him. You have read the letter, the CV, you see the person. The next window is the ‘blind’ one. Things you know about the applicant that he doesn’t know himself. For example the impression he is unconsciously making on you because of his gestures or other non-verbal communications. Then there is the ‘hidden’ window that you want to get to know: things he knows about himself, but you don’t. That’s where the interview starts, to try to get things out into the open (literally getting things from this hidden window out into the open window). But the Kaos Application form does one more thing: it involves the ‘unknown’ window. Things the applicant not even knows about himself. The questions posed in the form require thinking and self-reflection, causing the applicant to possibly learn some very valuable things about himself. Recommended!
